Designing New Patterns, Part 2

Well, in between making a new batch of platypus stuffed animals, I was finally able to finish my next try at my dinosaur patterns. Here’s a comparison picture of the first round versus the second:

As you can see, I made the new dinosaurs just a bit bigger. I may try increasing the size again. The larger they are, the less fiddly it will be to sew them by machine, especially pieces like the Triceratops’ horns and the T. Rex’s feet.

I also tried adding gussets to the heads of most of the dinosaurs. It definitely helps with the overall shape, but I still need to adjust the size. Mr. T. Rex below shows the effect of his head gusset. Way too triangular.

I still had some trouble with the belly and leg assemblies. Next time, I will try a different method to make sure the dinosaurs stand up. Hopefully, it will be simpler and result in fewer wrinkles. And maybe I can finally get Nessie’s belly right.

I’m excited to see how my dinosaurs will turn out on my third try. Here’s hoping for some good progress!
